We flew to New Orleans, explored a little there, then drove along the coast the next day and spent the night in Biloxi before going on to the convention in Mobile where I was a guest. Ate lots of shrimp, and fried crab claws, and ribs. Had creole food and pralines, and the locals at the con made sure I even got some authentic red velvet cake with cream cheese icing. I think I gained five pounds. Even ate fried catfish and hushpuppies at a log cabin along the highway, complete with flattened armadillos smashed on the highway outside.
Even had some guys named JoeBob and Billy get into a drunken brawl outside my hotel room door over Billy's wife.
So I think I saw some of your old stomping grounds, neckipoo.

The food is worth living there by itself.

Heheheh, got sidetracked into shrimp and crab claws instead of crawfish.

Neckipoo, I got my little plastic fly. I do have to say that the pecan pie from that place was fantastically yummy. The Blowfly's new building is way up on stilts overlooking the bayou, with a bar and porch area using the space under it. There's another porch upstairs. We stayed at Isle of Capri casino, which was pretty nice. There's a lot of construction going on. The one thing I didn't expect was all those grand old oak trees..I'm so used to palms being the trees at the beach that having them all lined with huge oaks was really different. Many of the houses being built are really high on masonry stilts with the under part being used as a carport. I can understand wanting to live there in spite of the hurricanes. And the food was delicious...all that fresh seafood was great, especially. I tried the creole food in new Orleans to see if I make it right... the main difference was that slow building heat in the NOLA food...which I now will try to add when I make it.

As to Joe Bob and Billy, they were with the convention. All I can say is Billy shouldn't proclaim himself and his wife to be polyamorous if he's going to pitch a fit and assault a guy who actually took his wife up on the offer. Razz

Little plastic fly? They used to put these 4" flies on them Razz

Creole/Cajun cooking is spicy, but not hot, the heat only builds a little. The hottest stuff I make is the bbq shrimp with the red pepper for heat. It's all about the taste... Mmmmm Spicy Good! as Chappy always says.

There used to be a restaurant where Pile of Debris is called The Factory. An old converted seafood factory on stilts. I worked there for a bit.

One day I was getting some appetizers for someone and one of the cooks said for me to get my customers out, the place was on fire. I look around and don't see anything and he points up, half the ceiling was in flames affraid Laughing So I put the appetizers in a to go bowl and took them out, told them they would have to leave. I went to the bar to get some drinks a couple had ordered, had the bartender put them in togo cups and took them to them and told them they'd have to leave, the kitchen was on fire. Laughing Laughing

That's the only time I've ever worked at a restaurant that caught on fire Razz

Lol, neckipoo!

Can you give me the BBQ shrimp recipe again? I seem to have lost it.
