at work. So I get into work over an hour early and decide to kill some time by talking somebody I work with. I was concerned that I had been slacking lately or not being really "all there" and of course none of this was really true, it was just me.
However I didn't realize this so I stood there trying to figure out what I needed to do when my supervisor said from inside her office "Hey, we have calls in que, can you get on the phone" and of course my imediate reaction was "Sorry, I don't start until nine" and then I went back to pondering my problem.
Now, what really cracked me up about ten minutes later is when it dawned on me the thing I wasn't doing was not showing enough initiive and I completely missed that when she said there were calls waiting.
I did tell her this after I realized it and she was cool & wasn't upset or guilt ridden, it was just a very dense albiet funny moment. So on the plus side I did figure out what my problem was and mostly its a lack of active listening.
