Yeah, I know I need to post more. It's been a traumatic week though. My neighbor's house burned down (BBQ left going on the back porch.)

Note the crunchy pine trees. My studio is about 20 feet to the right, surrounded by more crunchy pines, so it was scary. I was out there when it started but it smelled like grilling so I thought they were just smoking meat/BBQ'ing like they do almost every day. I went in to get a drink, heard an explosion and when I went back out the whole house was involved. The people were okay, a dog alerted the wife and she got out. The cat was left in the house but hid in a bathtub, was found unconscious by firefighters who revived it, so no fatalities.

Yeah, they smoke and grill on the second story wooden porch. They had a BBQ the night before. I think they left the smoker on and shoved it against the wall which was coated with vinyl siding, but that's just my theory. It's what it smelled like too. I remember thinking it was early to be grilling, but when you smoke stuff you sometimes do it all day so I didn't think too much of it. Then when I was almost to the door going into my house, I smelled candle wax which turned out to be the siding. Had it been an electrical smell, I would have gone and checked out where it was coming from, but it smelled like wax. Anyhow, once the explosion happened, the whole side was in flames. That siding was very flammable. They had to bring in two fire crews and use foam to put it out.

One lucky thing, the guy who lives there is the builder so he already had his crew in looking to see which parts could be saved. I'm guessing he'll rebuild. the house is only 3 years old.

I'm glad I have a pet door, my cats would be outside in a heartbeat if there was a fire

A fire would wake me though and I'd be evacuating the critters quick-like.

I'm so glad nobody was hurt and that it didn't spread to your place.

I really hope they build a brick bbq pit or something now. Doing that on a second floor porch is NUTS!
