I was curious so I googled it; I found one report for my area: "A wave of a little more than two feet hit the Los Angeles coast Friday morning..." I didn't think we'd get much. Northern CA got some waves though. Earlier I was watching some live cnn.com footage of Santa Cruz, where the marina saw some damage.

| http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/14mar_seemercury/Over the next few evenings, these two planets will "pass in the night," switching places so that Mercury is on top and Jupiter on the bottom. The higher Mercury rises, the easier it is to see. By the evening of March 17th, the innermost planet should be well above any distant trees or buildings—in prime position for the big event. March 17th is the night MESSENGER goes into orbit. | |

Good lord! That was 40 minutes after sunset? It looked like about 20 minutes it was that bright out, but I am 3000' above sea level, took a bit for them to pop into view. I'll see if I can get a pic tonite but they may be too far apart. I'll have to use binoculars for zoom.

| http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/19may_saturnstorm/May 19, 2011: NASA's Cassini spacecraft and a European Southern Observatory ground-based telescope are tracking the growth of a giant early-spring storm in Saturn's northern hemisphere so powerful that it stretches around the entire planet. The rare storm has been wreaking havoc for months and shooting plumes of gas high into the planet's atmosphere. Glad I read that again, I was looking for Jupiter | |

| Spaceships, Meteors, and Moonlight http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/09aug_perseids2011/August 9, 2011: Bright moonlight streams through your window. A nugget of space debris disintegrates in a sparkling fireball. A huge spaceship glides silently overhead. By itself, any one of these events might be enough to get you out of bed. This weekend, all three are going to happen at the same time. On August 12th and 13th, as the Moon waxes full, the International Space Station will glide over US towns and cities during the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower. | |
