Well, we got clobobbered tonite. A good down draft in the storm took out a very large oak and 1/3 of the cedar up front.

You could hear the storm coming up and I was talking to Sloppy online and I said "I hope the power doesn't go out, my pizza isn't done!" so I went to check how much time left on the pizza, 3 minutes, turn around and the power goes out. It came back on and the pizza finished. I turned off all the puters and reset the modem and router but every time I tried to turn on this computer, the power went out Laughing Finally got back online at 7:30 est.

My hand in that last shot, from wrist to middle finger tip is 8" and that's the thin side of the tree at 2' thick. It's about 30" across the fat side. The 3 cedars that grew together are all over 100 yrs old.

I had a huge tree branch fall on my carport. I'll post the pics as soon as I upload them. I heard it popping so I moved my car and was clearing an area to move the carport to. I was just gonna drive my truck under it, jack it up and drive forward about 30'. Too late! Laughing Split it in two so I can just carry the 'half' and then rebuild Razz

So, that oak's been sitting there, cut all the way through but didn't fall.

This last week, a truck broke down up at the top of the street. I was pulling out to get gas (the stations had been out so it was hit and miss getting some and you had to wait in line) and they were working on the truck. I got my gas and came home, turned down the road and they were trying to push the truck around and uphill, so I just asked if they wanted me to tow them.

So I tow them to a local shop about 2 miles down the road in town and the guy gives me the tow cable which is like 40' long and made of cable like they'd use to anchor a telephone pole. He was gonna give me some cash too but I said the cable was fine.

Soooo... I was gonna wrap my chain around the stump part of the tree and attach the cable to it and pull it with my truck to jerk the tree loose and down. Well, I just walked outside and the tree is down Laughing I didn't even hear it. Ah well, now it'll be really easy to cut up Razz

edit: oh, pics when it gets light enough, it's cloudy and raining a tad at 8:50am EST

That looks like a really big tree.

I have one that has to come down but it's gonna cost me $1000 becauese they have to bring in special equipment since it is so close to the other houses - one of the drawbacks from moving into town. Gotta think about my neighbors, heh.

The tree is 70'. The showing dirt is 10' across, another 2 to 3' offscreen. That section of stump is 30+ inches across.

I'm just glad it's down, now it's super easy to cut up with the chainsaw! Laughing I now have firewood for the winter Razz
